HOW TO REAPPLY DURABLE WATER REPELLENT (DWR)

Over time, the Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating on your jacket may wear off, causing water to stop beading on the surface. Reapplying DWR will restore your jacket’s water-repellent properties and help maintain its performance in wet conditions.

Follow these steps to reapply DWR:

1. Clean the Jacket:
Before applying a DWR treatment, wash your jacket using a mild detergent or a cleaner specifically designed for outdoor gear. This removes dirt and oils that can hinder the effectiveness of the DWR. Be sure to rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residues.

2. Apply the DWR Treatment:
Use a spray-on or wash-in DWR product, following the manufacturer's instructions. For spray-on treatments, hang your jacket and spray evenly on the outer surface. For wash-in treatments, add the DWR product to your washing machine.

3. Activate the DWR:
After applying the DWR, tumble dry the jacket on low heat or gently iron it (if allowed) to activate the coating. This step helps bond the DWR to the fabric for optimal water repellency.

4. Test and Repeat if Necessary:
Once dry, check if water beads on the surface. If it doesn’t, consider applying another layer of DWR treatment. Regular maintenance can extend your jacket’s lifespan and keep you dry in wet weather conditions.
