How to reapply Durable Water Repellent (DWR)

Over time the DWR coating on your jacket wears off, and water stops beading on the surface. Reapplying it restores the water repellency and keeps the jacket performing in the rain.

Clean the jacket

Wash the jacket with a mild detergent or a cleaner made for outdoor gear. Dirt and oils stop the DWR from bonding. Rinse well so no soap is left.

Apply the treatment

Use a spray-on or wash-in DWR product and follow its instructions. Spray-on: hang the jacket and spray the outside evenly. Wash-in: add the product in the washing machine.

Activate it

Tumble dry on low heat, or iron gently if the care label allows. The heat bonds the DWR to the fabric.

Test – and repeat if needed

When the jacket is dry, sprinkle some water on it. If it doesn’t bead, apply another layer. Regular care keeps you dry and makes the jacket last longer.
